Texas Hold 'Em

Texas Hold’em is the most popular form of poker, and has been front and center of all card games in popular media.

How is it played?

At the start of the game, each player is dealt two cards face down, referred to as “hole cards” or “pocket cards”. After this, five “community” cards are dealt, face down, on the table. Each player now gets to check their cards and have an opportunity to fold, call, or raise the bet. Betting continues if there are two or more active players who have not folded and have placed their bets in the pot.

At the start of the next round of betting, three cards are flipped face-up. The players can call, raise, fold, or check. If the game doesn’t conclude at this round, the fourth community card is revealed, and starts another betting round.

For the final betting round, the final community card, or the “river” gets dealt face-up. The betting round ensues. If more than one player remains after the betting round, the players reveal their cards clockwise, with the best hand winning the game. In cases where two or more players have identical hands, the pot will be divided equally between them.

What is limit poker?

A limit poker is a variant of poker that limits the minimum and maximum bets. In a 4-8 limit, players are only allowed to bet $4 pre-flop and on the flop, and $8 for both the turn and the river. These are referred to as “big bets” and “small bets”. In limit poker, players are allowed to raise bets (up to four times in Capitol Casino). No limit poker means the betting round is basically unlimited.

A “kill” basically means raising the stakes in the game. A “Full Kill” doubles of the big blind, as well as the betting limits (4-8 becomes 8-16), a “half-kill” raises it by half (4-8 becomes 6-12).

  • 4-8 limit Hold ‘Em (full kill)
  • 6-12 limit Hold ‘Em (full kill)
  • 8-16 limit Hold ‘Em (full kill)
  • 9-18 limit Hold ‘Em (full kill)
  • 12-24 limit Hold ‘Em (full kill)
  • 1-3 blind no limit
  • 2-5 blind no limit
  • 2-5-10 blind no limit
