Authorities have apprehended operators of an illegal poker room in Sierra Vista, each to pay fine of at least $11,000 and another $28,000 to cover the cost that the Arizona Department of Gaming has incurred during the course of the investigation.

Reports said four men plead guilty to charges of running an illegal gaming den since 2007.

Arizona prosecutors said all defendants were indicted August 2018 on charges of felony conspiracy, illegal enterprise and gambling offenses.

Unlike registered casinos, illegally operated game rooms do not follow city regulations on taxation, operations, and security.

Legally operated gaming rooms are regularly visited by government regulators ensuring the safety of all guests, players, and employees of the establishment; making sure that it is a place suitable to conduct business.
